چکیده
Numerous technical advances in the area of polymer light emitting diodes (PLEDs) have been made since their discovery in 1990 by Friend et al at Cambridge University . PLEDs are derivatives from the more commonly known LED (light emitting diode) devices. LEDs are solid-state semiconductor devices that convert electrical energy into light. They are typically used as indicator lights and numeric displays on many consumer electronic devices. The first LEDs were made of AlGaAs (aluminum gallium arsenic) and today the brightest and most abundant LEDs are comprised of AlGInP (aluminum gallium indium phosphide) and InGaN (indium gallium nitride).

متن کاملLattice-patterned LC-polymer composites containing various nanoparticles as additives
In this study, we show the effect of various nanoparticle additives on phase separation behavior of a lattice-patterned liquid crystal [LC]-polymer composite system and on interfacial properties between the LC and polymer. Lattice-patterned LC-polymer composites were fabricated by exposing to UV light a mixture of a prepolymer, an LC, and SiO2 nanoparticles positioned under a patterned photomas...
متن کاملRevisiting organic optical nonlinearity leads to a new class of materials
In the late 1980s and 1990s, researchers in industry and academia became captivated by so-called organic nonlinear optical (ONLO) materials, as is evident from SPIE Proceedings of that period. The ultrafast response of the π-electrons of ONLO materials to time-dependent electric fields—which translates into active control of light—clearly afforded a unique opportunity vis-à-vis ultrahigh (terah...
متن کاملGuiding Light in Electro-Optic Polymers
Electro-optic polymers have unique photonic, electro-optic and mechanical properties that make them attractive to use in a wide range of devices starting from ultra-high bandwidth light modulators for optical communications to miniature low power components for on-chip optical interconnects. The main building blocks of those devices are optical waveguides, that due to versatility of the polymer...

The design and simulation of a novel resonant cavity optical modulator incorporating a hybrid silicon/electro-optic polymer slot waveguide structure is presented in this work. The device utilizes the electro-optic polymer in the cavity region to provide an active material for modulation and includes distributed Bragg reflectors in single mode silicon waveguide regions at each end of the cavity ...
